Stella McCartney 1971- Present

Biography:
Born from Linda Eastman a rock photographer and Paul McCartney from The Beatles, Stella Nina McCartney was born on September 13, 1971 in London. Her lifestyle consisted of moving around and traveling due to the rock stardom of her parents. McCartney has a humble background from living on an organic farm and living the country life. Although her parents had strong reputations in the music world, McCartney managed to live a normal life around her family and friends and her three siblings.

Stella McCartney first launched her career when her supermodel friends Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss modeled her designs at her college graduation from London's Central St. Martins College of Art & Design. showcasing her second collection which consisted of sharp tailoring, natural confidence and sexy femininity, Thus establishing her signature style of fusing tailored garments with feminine pieces. McCartney became the Creative Director to Chloe in 1997. Not only does she design apparel, she also has lines of accessories, lingerie, fragrance, eyewear, and a kids collection. Stella comes from a background of being a lifelong vegetarian. Does that influence her designs? Yes, she does not use any leather or fur in all of her designs which is unique from other designers. McCartney has managed to be independent and make a name for herself, although many people have questioned her success, not because of her talent but due to her parent's backgrounds.

Critical Analysis:
At the time of Stella's success her parents have always been a part of her life. She was greatly inspired by her
parents style and edge, especially their attitude. Her country childhood also proved to be an influence on her work. For example the details that she puts in her designs like crystals, flowers, and nature itself. As a child Stella was known to be a tomboy. I feel that her designs do focus on masculine touches. Hey boyish and boxy cuts make her designs unique. Stella McCartney has a similar style to Chanel's silhouettes. Chanel was also known for her boy like cuts and not to mention her boy like hair. McCartney also gets inspiration from what is going on around the world, as well as, looking back at periods like the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. Other designers can look up to McCartney's style and unique characteristics.
For me Stella McCartney is a fashion icon because of her inspirational thinking. She is a true role model and personally I love the way she perceives fashion and how she interprets it. With her fused tailor garments that include feminine pieces she shines bright like a diamond down the runway. She interprets the masculine pieces in a casual and sleek way. She is also a fashion icon for her love in animals. As an Animal Rights activist, McCartney does not use leather or fur in her designs. She is a strong thinker and thus she thinks that people in fashion are "heartless". She believes that other people in different industries pay more attention on the animal's rights and fashion should play an important role in supporting Animal's Rights. McCartney has received many different awards like the honorary degree at the University of Dundee in March 2003, Designer of the Year at the British style awards in 2007, Glamour's Women of the Year '09, British Fashion Council's Red Carpet Award '11. and also named in the Time 100 for the 100 most influential people in the world. She proved herself throughout her parents fame and truly made a name for herself.

Analysis of Future Trends:
McCartney's effortless style and tailored femininity is a key factor of her success. She does an amazing job with putting together casual looks that look spectacular. Stella describes her aesthetic as "naturally sexy, naturally confident and modern." (British Fashion Designers) Stella is also known for her sporty chic collections. She launched a sports performance range with Adidas in 2004, and she designed garments for running, gym, yoga, tennis, swimming, dance, golf, and winter sports. It is evident that Stella McCartney has become a worldwide sensation, as seen on her H&M Collection that she launched in 2005, it sold out worldwide and brought the Stella McCartney look to a different audience. Stella McCartney has become an inspiration to me and new designers. Her aesthetic and her vegetarian aspects can inspire new designers to follow her footsteps and fight for animal rights. When I think of Stella McCartney I also think of Chloe, J. Crew, and Liz Claiborne because of their similar aspects.

"A Slouchy Signature Style Has Been Created By Stella McCartney"- Hywell Davis
Known for being both aspirational and wearable, Stella McCartney is a modern lifestyle brand. Stella McCartney reinvented the slouchy signature style. Her designs are flattering to women and well made. The feminine tailored look has been around for a long time. But McCartney learned to make it modern and fashionable for today's world. One of Stella's incredible aspects is that her designs are diverse. She can adapt to different settings and make her designs go from edgy to glamorous and sophisticated.
Sharp Tailoring & Natural Confidence
I looked through my closet and unfortunately I did not find anything similar in my closet that resembled McCartney's style, but I would LOVE to own designs by Stella McCartney. As a student on a budget that might not be possible right now, but its not impossible. Stella is inspiring and I hope to be able to follow her footsteps.
