Perspective on The Fashion World
All the designers that I selected for my project all are from the 21st century. The designers show off their designs in more modern ways. It is easier to relate to their designs since we are in the 21st century. Most of my designers have similar backgrounds. For example, Catherine Malandrino and Zac Posen are both from New York City. Catherine Malandrino and Philip Treacy both have experience with working with Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex in the City, which is one of my favorite shows/ movie. Stella McCartney is one of my inspirations. I love how she is completely vegetarian which makes her standout from the rest. Proenza Schouler is two amazing men who knew how to put their creativity together to make it one amazing label.
Catherine Malandrino is the ultimate Frenchwoman in America. Malandrino got herself recognized when she designed an American flag dress which Madonna wore on her world tour. To me her designs look structured and elegant; it gives a woman a more sophisticated and sexy look.  Her designs also display the typical New York City women which go back to Malandrino’s background. Many people describe her collections and designs as a mix between the energy of Manhattan and the romance of Paris. Not only is she known for her outstanding designs but she is also known as the women most photographed after The Statue of Liberty. (Malandrino)
Another designer that I decided to include in my project is Stella McCartney. She portrays a signature style of sharp tailoring, natural confidence and sexy femininity in her collections. (About Stella) A lifelong vegetarian, Stella McCartney does not use any leather or fur in her designs. She stands out from other designers because of her vegetarian and green appreciation. Her collections all include women’s ready-to-wear clothing and accessories.
I choose to write about Zac Posen because his background story really inspired me. He was just a young student in college when he got recognized as a fabulous designer. Not only did his family support him in his decisions but his mom left her job to become his manager and his sister his creative director. His collections all have a sense of femininity and sculptured clothing.
Proenza Schouler is a New York based womenswear and accessories brand founded by Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. (Schouler) They are a strong duo who met at Parsons while working on their senior thesis which ended up being there first collection launched. There designs pay attention to details and are very well crafted. They like to use custom made fabrics with their own made patterns. They are both young talented men who really knew how to put their best qualities together to create an amazing line.
Philip Treacy is the world’s only haute couture hat designer. I chose treacy because he was different from all the other designers. He focuses mainly on designing hats. They are elaborate and well made. One of his goals is to get American women to wear his creations but he understands it’s a difficult challenge since they don’t really wear hats. Although, he has had some celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Kate Middleton wearing his designs. Many people view his designs as sculptures and works of art. His creations are beautiful and if I were a hat person I would wear them with pride.
Finally, all the designers that I chose to do research on and include in my project are all distinguished designers with incredible abilities. They all have their own self of style and their own sense of creativity. I choose designers that I have never heard of or didn’t know about them. I want this project to be something new for me. I’m going to enjoy researching about these designers and giving it my all on this project. Just by reading these designers biography’s, they have inspired me so much and changed my prospective on the world of fashion.
